We are looking forward to March with Envirohub’s Sustainable Backyards Series

This March, Envirohub Bay of Plenty’s Sustainable Backyards programme returns with a lineup of events that encourages us all to explore our backyards with a new curiosity.

From backyard biodiversity to the wonders of our coastal ecosystems, if you’re looking for hands-on learning, family fun, or just inspiration for reconnecting with nature, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Join us as we co-host an event for you to play Marine Invaders!

Survival of the Fittest: Learn About Marine Pest Species Through Gameplay

📅 Sunday 15 March 1–3pm
📍 Ōmokoroa Sports Pavilion, Ōmokoroa

Tickets: https://events.humanitix.com/survival-of-the-fittest-learn-about-marine-pest-species-through-gameplay

Bring the tamariki along for an engaging, interactive experience where they’ll learn about marine pest species and why they’re a threat to our coastal ecosystems. Using the Marine Invaders game, kids aged 7 and up will work together in groups to outsmart invasive species and protect native ocean life. It’s a fun, hands-on way to learn about teamwork, coastal ecology, and how we can look after Aotearoa’s unique moana , without even getting wet!

👉 Tickets are just $5, and adults stay free with their children.

Or we encourage you to check out Natalie - where she talks about her research on the local moana

Superheroes in Marine Restoration

📅 Wednesday 4 March 4–5:30pm
📍 Envirohub BOP, Tauranga

Join Envirohub and special guest PhD candidate Natalie Prinz for an interactive talk exploring the “superpowers” of local marine species like tuangi (New Zealand cockles) and the vital role they play in restoring degraded coastal habitats. Expect fascinating science, hands-on experiments, and practical tips on how you can help restore your local moana too.

👉 This event is free to attend, but registrations are required.
