Marine Invaders Saltwater Country

A brand new version of Marine Invaders is being developed in close partnership with The Wollotuka Institute, University of Newcastle Australia with strong emphasis on First Nations knowledge.

The project aims to develop an Australian educational Marine Biosecurity resource to be donated to NSW schools in the greater Newcastle area, donated directly to DeadlyScience - a registered not for profit Indigenous charity working to empower Indigenous students in remote schools to discover science, technology, engineering and maths pathways through innovative programs.

We are launching the game!

The workshops can be hosted at workplaces, schools, and with community organisations. This interactive workshop offers a free opportunity for participants to learn about marine biosecurity in a fun and collaborative setting while providing valuable feedback to refine and enhance the game.

Dates are available in Adelaide, Townsville, Sydney, and Perth

A big thank you to DeadlyScience who helped host a poll to select culturally significant marine species to NSW First Nations people. Native species selected include Bottlenose dolphin, Loggerhead sea turtle, Pipi and the Mud Crab.

Our Artist on board is David Parsons a proud Worimi and Biripi person and University of Newcastle Student, who will be designing the layout and box, and illustrating the native species in the game.

You can see an exclusive sneak peak of his art here first!

We wouldn’t be Marine Invaders without highlighting some of the most dangerous creatures to the NSW coastline. In collaboration with the NSW DPIRD, they helped us to select the invasive marine pests to combat. This includes some common invaders to New Zealand; Asian Date Mussel, Chinese Mitten Crab, Undaria (Wakame/Asian Kelp) and the Asian Paddle Crab.

We’d also like to announce that we are working with Artist Dr René Teresa Campbell

René has a true passion for protecting Australian shorelines from invasive species with her PhD focusing on the invasion success of one of the world's most prolific marine invasive species - The European shore crab (Carcinus maenas) - which will also be featured in the next version.

From the NZ version, you may also recognise the Northern Pacific Seastar
